The family has long been the cornerstone of American society, evidenced by the nation’s two most popular holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are observed throughout the land by family gatherings and celebrations.
In our changing society, with so many one-parent or two working-parent families, it has become more important for Elks Lodges to offer family activities in order to attract and retain Members. All Lodges cannot offer golf courses, bowling alleys or swimming pools, but can and should offer family activities as part of their regular programs. Family activities will help in procuring new Members and keeping existing Members by giving families “together time” to better utilize the continually shrinking hours families have in a fast-moving society
A time-honored saying states: “The family that prays together stays together.” So it is with our Elks Lodges. The family that plays together will stay together and continue to be active in our Lodges. Family involvement can make a difference in the success of our Lodges. Parents, siblings and children who visit and learn about our Lodges today will be the Members and leaders of our Lodges tomorrow who Make a Difference!

Led by our Elks National Veterans Service Commission, the Order has long enjoyed a rewarding relationship with our Nation’s Veterans. Since 1946, our promise to all our Veterans and their families has been and continues to be “So long as there are Veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them.” We have faithfully kept this promise and continue to do so.
The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow. Our young people are subjected to many influences, some of which are negative and unwholesome. An important contribution to communities is to provide positive experiences for our youth.
Elks are proud Americans who have always been proud to display and honor the Flag of our Country.
